We have always opted for reflection as the driver of any renewal and innovation. With the 10 points that José Luis Damian brings us grow and we can discuss a lot. Will you be able to agree with everyone?
Our current educational system is stuck for years. We have failed to adapt the way we educate our youth to this same education respond as best as possible to the challenges that society launched today.
still using the same old methods that were once successful but which are now fully obsolete.
matter how much you could learn in our education, I think the error is in omitting what we teach. There are lessons to their importance in life should not be overlooked.
then I would submit 10 key lessons that you learn in school and you should have to do in order to fully develop your best potential.
1 .- equivocate. Our school system paid the success and only success. The error is seen as a failure which subtracts points of the total. What we are asked in school to pass a subject is not wrong and deliver a paper called "review" to show that we have correctly answered a number of questions. Result: The student learns that making mistakes is bad. Nothing more false! No attempt is all that should be punished. Success is designed for those who try and get it wrong a lot, not for those who answer correctly the first time.
2 .- Learn to learn. All schools are supposed to have this principle as the guiding principle, or so they advertise in their brochures, but there are few who truly understand what this means. If indeed you are teaching schools Why learn they ask you to present a review with all the information stored in your head? That is not learning. A school that teaches you to learn that motivates you to discover the truth for yourself. We propose an objective (a challenge) and teaches you to discover for yourself the way to achieve that goal.
3 .- The mathematics are not the measure of everything. Math is beautiful! But they can not solve it and explain everything. This has been one of the Gardner error of our educational system, teaching that everything can and must be quantified in order to be understood and improved. What I say about love? How about the sense of transcendence? Or perhaps we can measure the level of ethics and justice of a person using statistics? No. Some things are even more important than anything that can be quantified. More art and less numbers please! 4 .- Copy
good. Hey here is another paradigm that we must break! Why forbid students to collaborate among themselves to find an answer? "In professional life, this is not the best right? Would a director awards an employee who keeps to himself the relevant information about the company? Of course not! No culture is worse than not being shared. So the challenge method works, because it encourages team building solutions fully over individual achievement.
5 .- Going to school is NOT insurance for success. The world is littered with cases of people who achieved their goals and transform the world without ever having set foot in college or high school. Do not forget, for example, that Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, dropped out of Harvard University, or that Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, decided not to impose his parents the financial burden of paying for a good education he could find on their own. 6 .- Profession
is not the same as Vocation. Please, somebody explain this to young people before entering the University! While choosing the profession, vocation is discovered. Vocation is not something you can go to learn at a school for 3 or 4 years. This is a personal appeal to only listen with attention. Personally, I have discovered this meant a breakthrough in my way of thinking about my own life. 7 .-
are school teachers. There are facilities, not the demonstrable academic level, not having the best science lab, is not that what makes an outstanding school. They are excellent teachers and what counts. They are the people and not the irons and partitions that you become a better person. We all remember a teacher who by the way to be, not what they taught, guided us for good.
8 .- The only thing I could not stop form is character. This is most important. You may not have been taught in the best possible way how a atom, or maybe you passed by learning the periodic table, but what your school is due to strive against all odds is to learn to control yourself yourself. In this sense, the discipline has much to do. A school that left you alone with the pounding of your own weakness, I completely disappointed.
9 .- Your parents will educate you more than school education. This is not what you say, but it has always been. A school that left out of the circle formation to parents is creating a gap impossible to fill. In this sense, the school should also be parents and not just for children. Best result gives parents better children. The formation of a whole human being, is not unique to a school or teacher.
10 .- The most important thing is to believe and then do. Self-esteem of a young man should be a priority in our schools. Hundreds of schools to wash their hands for not knowing how to deal with a boy who is humiliated by her classmates (Bullinger). However much you want intellectual edución propose a person, if the first can not believe itself, of no use. The first step to success is, in fact, believe you can achieve. Once you believe, then you can proceed to try to achieve it.
